Consisting in a group of twelve acrylic paintings and a mini-video installation , At Least We Learned Something Today offers an intimate glimpse into the recent production of Clayton Junior, whose practice revolves around observation, memory and visual storytelling.

The title plays with the notion that every experience, no matter how seemingly insignificant, carries meaning. This ethos positions the artist as both an attentive observer and an advocate for the beauty in the ordinary.

Visitors can expect an eclectic yet interconnected collection of paintings. Certain motifs, such as butterflies, insects and plants, reference folklore and personal history, while mirror colorful abstract compositions that highlight the artist’s formal explorations. By its side, landscapes transcend geography, existing as a result of a process of flashback and recollection.

Color plays a central role in Clayton’s work, driven by his long-time fascination of its sensory impact as also with its wide array of cultural meanings. Despite being colorblind—an aspect that often surprises viewers—the artist confidently employs bold contrasts and striking hues, reinforcing the elegance and harmony of the compositions.

For Clayton Junior, painting is both a source of pleasure and a means of grounding thoughts and memories into tangible form. Balancing intention and spontaneity, the artist offer pieces of a fragmented narrative, encouraging viewers to form their own connections.
