Quadrinhos! – Brazilian Comics in Berlin

In September 2026, the library of the Ibero-American Institute library hosted the exhibition Quadrinhos! – Brazilian Comics in Berlin, curated by me and the translator Lea Hübner. The exhibition presented a broad selection of Brazilian comics, selected by us during eight months of research.

We made a selection among the more than 1,300 Brazilian comic titles held in the Institute’s library, one of the world’s leading research institutions dedicated to Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal.

The eight display cases in the reading room presented a selection of publications from the Institute’s collection, addressing issues of identity, gender, religion, politics, economics, and regional diversity.

Bringing together artistic expression and social reflection, the exhibition highlighted the great variety of contemporary Brazilian comics while also drawing attention to lesser-known works.
